How to Choose the Right Underfloor Heating Kit for Your One-Room Setup

by UFH1

Choosing the right underfloor heating kit for your one-room setup depends on a couple of factors such as room type, room size, pipe spacing and desired heat output. In this guide, we’ll help you find the perfect UFH kit for your one-room project, so you have all the necessary information before making a purchase.

Your One-Room Underfloor Heating System Requirements

The first step to finding the perfect UFH system for one room is to determine what your space’s requirements are. Start by measuring the size of the space and figuring out what the appropriate pipe centres are. For example, in conservatories, wet rooms and areas with large glazed parts, we recommend installing the pipes at 100mm spacing to compensate for the higher heat loss.

If you’re using an air or ground source heat pump, the pipes should be at least 150mm centres regardless of the room type. A boiler-based system in a standard solid construction room would usually have pipes installed at 200mm spacing.

Underfloor Heating Kit Options for One Room

There are 3 underfloor heating systems that we recommend for one-room setups. Which one you choose is dependent on the level of coverage you require, as well as what benefits you’re looking for from an underfloor heating kit:

Single Room Thermostatic Valve Kit

  • Maximum area coverage: 15m2 at 200mm pipe spacing.
  • How it works: This underfloor heating system works like a radiator replacement with no need for electric control. It has a temperature limiting valve system that would come on and off with any other radiators linked to the heating system.
  • Advantages: The advantages of this UFH are that the valve regulates the temperature to ensure the floor pipes don’t get too hot, preventing damage to screed/flooring.

Multi-Port Manifold Kit

  • Maximum area coverage: 40m2 at 200mm pipe spacing, 20m2 at 100mm spacing.
  • How it works: The manifold underfloor heating system works by having its own feed from the heat source, which can be controlled independently, like the pumped single room kit.
  • Advantages: There is one clear advantage of this UFH kit, and that is its scale of coverage. For example, 2 x 12-port manifolds with pipes at 200mm spacing can cover up to 480m2. If you’d like more information on bespoke underfloor heating for larger spaces, we offer free specification quotes.

Installation Tips for One-Room Underfloor Heating

For single-room setups, there are a few key elements you need to take into consideration to ensure you end up with the most effective underfloor heating system:

  • Make sure your chosen underfloor heating kit matches your room size and heat source.
  • Before you begin the installation process, you need to plan ahead to ensure you avoid walls and fixed furniture such as bathtubs.
  • In and single room, actuators aren’t required to control individual ports, and neither is a full wiring centre. One thermostat can be used with a simple junction box per manifold.
  • Consider your floor type and whether it's compatible with UFH. Make sure you know what types of flooring work with underfloor heating systems before you make your decision.

One-Room Underfloor Heating FAQs

Can I have underfloor heating in just one room?

Yes, UFH works well in just one room. Whether you’re looking to heat a bathroom, a conservatory or any other single room, our single room underfloor heating kits are the perfect addition to make your space feel cosy without having to commit to a multi-room retrofit.

How much does underfloor heating cost for one room?

Underfloor heating doesn't have to be expensive, especially for one room. Our single room kits start at just £276 with the Toplo Single Room Kit, which provides heat for rooms of up to 20m².

Can you control individual rooms with underfloor heating?

If you’re using a pumped kit or a manifold underfloor heating system, then yes, you can control a single room's temperature. However, if you’re using a thermostatic valve kit, it won't offer individual room control and is connected to your whole-house heating system.
